New Delhi: The Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) is implementing a Core Sector Framework Program – Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana (PMKSY) since 2016-17 for the overall growth and development of the food processing sector. foods, including grains, oilseeds, vegetables and fruit-based processing industries. As part of its constituent programs, MoFPI provides credit-related financial assistance (capital grant) in the form of grants to entrepreneurs for the establishment of food processing / preservation industries with infrastructure at the level of the operations such as primary processing facilities, collection centers, etc. , a total of 292 food processing units have been approved for assistance under the Food Processing and Preservation Capacity Building / Expansion component program. In addition, a total of 124 primary processing centers with a dry warehouse capacity of 116,450 MT, cold storage capacity of 56,520 MT and deep freezing capacity of 1,750 MT have been approved under the Mega Food Park projects. .
The government announced the expansion of the scope of the “Operation Greens Scheme” from tomato, onion and potato (TOP) to 22 perishable products, in the budget speech for 2021-2022, in order to reinforce the added value of these perishable foodstuffs. The ministry has identified these 22 perishables, which include mango, banana, apple, pineapple, carrot, cauliflower, beans, etc.
