Barcelona deny Giovana Queiroz Costa claims she was the victim of ‘abusive behaviour’

Barcelona have denied player Giovana Queiroz Costa’s claims that she was subject to ‘abusive behaviour’ at the Catalan club.

Queiroz, 18, who joined Barcelona in July 2020, said he was exposed to “humiliating and embarrassing situations for months”.

In an open letter to Barcelona president Joan Laporta, Queiroz – now on loan at Levante – said his attacker ‘wanted to destroy my reputation, undermine my self-esteem, degrade my working conditions, minimize and underestimate my psychological conditions “.

Everton lost £120.9million in the 2020-21 financial year

Everton have revealed they lost £120.9m in the 2020-21 financial year.

The 2020-21 football season was affected by the COVID-19 pandemic resulting in gate receipts of just £200,000 as only four games were played in front of fans.

As a result, Everton’s financial reports suggested they had been hit to the tune of £103m in the last financial year – and £170m since March 2020 – by the outbreak of the virus.

Chelsea have put tickets on sale for matches for the first time since Abramovich was sanctioned

Chelsea have put tickets on sale for the club’s Champions League, FA Cup and Women’s Super League fixtures for the first time since Roman Abramovich was hit with financial sanctions by the UK government and the Union European.

But only season ticket holders and away fans will be allowed to attend the club’s final Premier League home games at Stamford Bridge – with no further tickets being sold.

Chelsea said in a statement on Tuesday that the club had “received an amendment” to the general license granted to the club by the British government following financial sanctions imposed on club owner Abramovich.

Championship clubs boosted by parachute payments three times more likely to win promotion

According to a new study, Championship clubs with parachute payments are three times more likely to be promoted than those without.

A report from Sheffield Hallam University claimed the parachute payments “continue to distort Championship competition”, awarding an average value of £33million per club last season for teams that received them.

This figure contrasts sharply with the average club income without parachute payments, which is around £20million.

Trent Alexander-Arnold in race to be fit for Liverpool to Manchester City trip

Trent Alexander-Arnold faces a race against time to be fit for Liverpool’s Premier League clash with title rivals Manchester City.

The England right-back is set to miss Saturday’s meeting with Watford at Anfield and next Tuesday’s Champions League quarter-final first leg at Benfica due to the hamstring injury he suffered against Arsenal before the international break .

The game with Pep Guardiola’s side at the Etihad on April 10 is seen as a possible return date for the 23-year-old.

Brandon Williams has said he would be against returning to Manchester United unless he was promised regular game time with the first team.

Williams, 21, joined Norwich City on a season-long loan deal in August as Luke Shaw and Alex Telles were above him in the left-back pecking order at Old Trafford.

The Manchester United academy graduate’s breakthrough year in the 2019-20 season has been hugely successful with Williams playing 36 times under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

ICYMI: European clubs presented new Champions League qualifying model – with two slots for ‘historic’ performances

The European Club Association has been presented with a new Champions League qualification model – with two places awarded to teams partly based on their historical performance, understands The Athletic.

The Champions League will use the so-called “Swiss model” from the 2024-25 season. This will mean that each team plays in a single league during the group stage, with a guarantee of at least 10 games. There will also be 36 teams in the Champions League proper, four more than the current 32.

Of these places, two would go to the teams with the best historical performances – although they must finish in the places just outside the Champions League places in their own league – and these will be known as the two places. coefficients which take into account a club’s performance over the previous five seasons.

Barcelona club president Joan Laporta has played down talk of Lionel Messi returning to Camp Nou this summer.

Messi, 34, is linked with a return to the club he was associated with for 21 years.
