Volunteers needed for Veterans Day event

The Plant City Department of Parks and Recreation Cemeteries Operations Unit will honor the veterans who are buried in the city’s four cemeteries by placing a United States flag on the graves of each veteran in recognition of the Veterans Day.

Volunteers are needed to help place flags for Park’s & Rez’s second annual Veterans Day event. Flag placement will take place on Saturday, November 6, 2021, with all volunteers arriving at the Cemetery Operations Office, 109 W. Spencer St., no later than 9:00 am. Groups will receive instructions on standard flag installation and will be assigned to specific areas. to aid in the placement of flags. The event is a great way for civic and service clubs in the area to mark Veterans Day. Families are encouraged to participate in order to show our young people the need to recognize and remember the men and women who fought for our country. Refreshments will be offered to all volunteers.

44th annual Pioneer Day celebration

The East Hillsborough Historical Society will host the 44th annual Pioneer Day celebration on Saturday, November 13, 2021 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the 1914 Plant City High School Historic Community Center, 605 N. Collins St.

The free, family-friendly all-day celebration will include shows, a kids’ train ride and a day of fun, also hosting food and craft vendors, pioneer exhibits, and the homemade and historic quilt exhibit. .

Visit the 1914 PCHSCC Pioneer Museums, the Henry B. Plant Railroad Historical Society model train system, museum exhibits, heritage demonstrations, patchwork, dancing, singing and more. In addition, alumni of Turkey Creek High School will share their archival collection on the history of their school with the community.

The Quintilla Geer Bruton Archives Center will host their annual bake sale, the Plant City Garden Club will host their annual juried flower show, the Seminole and Miccosukee People of Florida will have a new exhibit hosted at the Classroom Gallery, Plant Museum staff will tell interior stories of the Tampa Bay hotel and more.

Descendants of pioneer families who lived in the Eastern Hillsborough County area for one hundred years or more are eligible to receive a pioneer certificate. Applications are available at the Archives Center or
