Run Messinia pays homage to 200 years since the Greek revolution, October 2-11 | food and travel, travel
ATHENS – The Messinian land with its special place in the Greek Revolution of 1821, through historical battles, great heroes and fighters, is reborn 200 years later, thanks to Run Messinia. The historic event will take place from October 2 to 11 in eight municipalities in Messinia, Laconia and Arcadia and will include a total of 10 marathons, over 10 consecutive days.
We run 421km for freedom
The event will present all areas associated with the Greek revolution in Messinia, both culturally and touristically. Run for Freedom will start on Saturday October 2 from Areopoli in East Mani Municipality, pass through Stoupa in West Mani Municipality and end in Kardamyli. On Sunday October 3, starting from Kardamyli, the race will pass through Verga of the municipality of Kalamata and end in the town of Kalamata. On Monday, October 4, the athletes departing from Kalamata will cross Nedousa and finish in Alagonia. On Tuesday, October 5, the riders starting from Alagonia will pass through Dyrachio and Neochori from the municipality of Megalopoli and finish their effort at Poliani from the municipality of Kalamata. From Poliani, on Wednesday October 6, participants will cross Skala and meet in Paloukorahi of the municipality of Oichalia.
On Thursday October 7, the course will highlight the historic places of the municipality of Oichalia, while the athletes starting from Paloukorahi will cross Katsarou, Solaki, Meropi, Loutro, Diavolitsi, Ano Psari, Dorio and will meet in front of the statue of Kolokotronis in Ramovouni. On Friday October 8, starting from Ramovouni, the runners will pass through Zerbisia from the municipality of Messini, Kalogeresi, Saint Nikitas Sellas and Tripyla from the municipality of Trifylia, to join Maniaki from the municipality of Pylos-Nestor. On Saturday October 9, the participants will depart from Maniaki, pass through Agios Andreas of the Municipality of Messini and Kato Minagia and finish in Koroni. On Sunday October 10, the route will travel exclusively in the municipality of Pylos-Nestor de Koroni, in Methoni then in Pylos. The 10th and final run of Run for Freedom to be held on Monday, October 11, starting from Pylos, will offer runners the opportunity to go through Niokastro, observe Sphacteria and Paleokastro, while crossing Kremmidia and Schinolakka.

Run Messinia will leave a legacy for the future, as it highlights and promotes through its social networks, historical places, battles and all monuments, through which runners will pass.
The event will be held under the auspices of the Greek National Tourism Organization.
