This historic Florida mansion features a courtyard designed by landscape architect Bok Tower

A Central Florida house linked to the area’s most famous Gothic tower is now for sale in Lake Wales.

Located at 2300 N, scenic route n ° 70, in the community of Mountain Lake, the adobe Mediterranean Revival was completed in 1925 and designed by famous architect Charles R. Wait, best known for his nearby “El Retiro” aka Pinewood Estate.

For the landscaping, Wait engaged the firm of landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted Jr., who designed the community’s original landscaping and, a few years earlier, completed the famous Bok Tower Gardens.

At the time, Olmsted was already quite popular, having designed the famous Olmsted Point in Yosemite National Park with his father, who had notably worked in Central Park in New York. Olmsted would later work on President Theodore Roosevelt’s The Child plan, the Jefferson Memorial, and the White House grounds, among others.

The 6,230 square foot home features a total of nine bedrooms and nine bathrooms, as well as two guest suites, a swimming pool, and quite a remarkable view of the historic Mountain Lake Colony House and Bok Tower.

The current asking price is $ 3.5 million and the listing agent is Rhonda Heath of Mountain Lake Corporation.
